Welcome

“Autumn’s Treble Makers” is a musical instruction company where students’ imagination and creation come to life through exploration on the stage.

My name is Autumn Bourg, and I began my teaching career here in the Valley in 2005 after moving from the mitten state, Michigan. I began building music programs in 2008 based on the Arizona State Standards. In 2013 I started Autumn’s Treble Makers.  Inspiring others and sharing my love and passion for music has been a lifelong dream of mine.

It goes back to the days of carrying my little purple boom box around and rolling the windows down at gas stations while singing at the top of my lungs hoping that my talents would be discovered.  I come from a musical, artistic background, my dad is a musician, and my mom is an artist. I started performing at my church at a young age and continued to perform in choirs, theater, band and on stage throughout my whole life.

I knew I wanted to teach music after my high school band director shared with my parents how he could see such great potential and the talent in me. His dedication and belief in me has been one of the greatest gifts and has helped transform me into the person I am today. My goal since I started teaching back in 2005, has been to be that same kind of role model for my students.

My grandma always would encourage me to use my imagination, and to this day, I have a very vivid one. It is such a joy to share that with my students and pass on those skills to young performers. Use your imagination and come create with me.

I look forward to the opportunity of sharing my love of music with your child.

What are the benefits of Musical Theatre?

Musical theater encompasses three activities: singing, dance, and drama. According to the Americal Alliance for Theatre and Education, studies have demonstrated these activities directly help a child develop self-control and improves their academic education, with performers achieving higher test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts. Singing helps develop coordination, concentration and memory skills. Movement through dance helps their flexibility and improves their self-esteem. Drama boosts a child’s memory through self-discipline and the memorization of lines. If you’d like to read more about the benefits of musical theater, click here.

Musical theater is more than just music! According to the Children’s Music Workshop, the effect of music education on language development can be seen in the brain. “Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain’s circuits in specific ways. Linking familiar songs to new information can also help imprint information on young minds,” the group claims.

Dr. Eric Rasmussen, chair of the Early Childhood Music Department at the Peabody Preparatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches a specialized music curriculum for children aged two months to nine years, explains it best. “There is a massive benefit from being musical that we don’t understand, but it’s individual. Music is for music’s sake. The benefit of music education for me is about being musical. It gives you have a better understanding of yourself. The horizons are higher when you are involved in music. Your understanding of art and the world, and how you can think and express yourself, are enhanced.”

Why Music Matters.

Music has been found to stimulate parts of the brain, and studies have demonstrated that music enhances the memory of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, including a study conducted at UC Irvine, which showed that scores on memory tests of Alzheimer’s patients improved when they listened to classical music.
